Intro
Since 2000 I regularly focus on the suffering of animals in my paintings and drawings.
In the coverage in the daily news about forest fires, oil spills, flooding, drought or climate change the fate of people always comes first, while in these disasters there are generally more animal than human victims.
Animals are outlawed in a world that revolves around people and prosperity. Animals are killed, bred, eaten, abused, exploited, mutilated, locked up, hunted and chased away by human beings.
I think it is important to draw attention to the injustice that is done to them so that we look more closely at our treatment of animals.
With my works I want to tell stories, in a more or less journalistic way, on the basis of facts and details. I extensively study the subject I choose and prepare preliminary studies of animals and objects that will be added to the painting or drawing. In response to the final sketch the canvas is painted in oil paint, combined with other materials such as oilpaintstick, oil pastels and oil crayons. The drawings are made on paper with various materials such as collage, ecoline, ink, pencil and crayons.
