About the work

The cyclone Nargis passed over the south of Burma/Myanmar on May 2 and 3. As a result, the entire area was flooded and there were more than 800,000 displaced persons. The junta, led by General Than Shwe, allowed no aid workers or relief supplies. The official death toll at the time of the making of the canvas was 84,537 and there were 53,836 missing. Later, the death toll was established at 140,000. Approximately 47,630,000 animals died.
