On November 11, 2007, during a storm, several ships sink in the Black Sea. 15 crew members are lost. One ship, the Volganeft 139, loses 10,000 tons of fuel oil in the days following the storm. It is estimated that 30,000 birds (many of which are endangered) die as a result of the oil disaster. 50 km of Russian coastline is long stained with oil.
