About the work
Worldwide, there are more than 100 million people fleeing from war and poverty. Half of them are under 18 years old. The main countries of origin are Syria, Afghanistan, (South) Sudan, Somalia, and Congo. Most refugees are accommodated in camps in neighboring countries.
Yet many risk the life-threatening crossing over the water, in rickety and overcrowded boats, to safe and prosperous Europe. In 2016, 3981 people drowned. In 2022, more than 5000.
