About the work

The painting is about Sita, Fiffy, Mojo, Regina, and Macario. These chimpanzees have all had a terrible life. After years of solitary and filthy confinement, they were all rescued and taken in by the AAP Foundation.

Sita was in a cage that was too small for 14 years in a Belgian zoo, causing her legs to grow crooked. Fiffy was locked up for 29 years in a small, dirty cage in the attic of a castle in France. Mojo spent 29 years in a shack in Belgium, fattened by his owner with fatty and sweet food. In Lithuania, Regina was locked in a basement for 6 years after being used in a circus for 12 years. And Macario comes from Gran Canaria. After growing up with humans, he was locked in a box for 15 years and always received too little food and water.
